Transcript Format Examples

If your monitor is viewing at 800 x 600 or lower, you will need to view the samples in a new window.

The traditional model of a court reporter's transcript is a double-spaced document typed in 12-point Courier font, with line numbers. Deposition documents are 21 lines per page, and courtroom documents and business transcription are 25 lines per page.

The Enhanced model has all the same features as the traditional transcript, but also offers features useful for easier reading and more efficient searching, published to a variety of popular formats. As you can see by clicking on the links in the left-hand side of the table above, added features can include highlighting and color-coding of speaker IDs or particular words, time-stamping of all dialogue, audio-enhanced transcripts and full indexing of all words spoken (concordance.)

Audio-Enhanced Transcripts! New!

ENCtranscripts is proud to offer audio-enhanced transcripts, where you or anybody with a relatively recent web browser can click on the link next to the speaker ID and hear the recorded utterance instantly. Imagine never needing to fast-forward and rewind a cassette deck during a hearing again, for starters. :-)

The links next to speaker IDs above all link to a single audio "slice" taken from a mockup deposition. The audio-enhanced transcript is in the HTML format, and available on a CD. To view the audio-enhanced example in a new window, click here.

Note: If your browser alerts you that the web page is trying to load an active-x application, that's because the audio-enhanced web page uses an Adobe Flash applet and your browser is programmed to halt on loading them. Instruct your browser to permit this web page (in IE, right-click on the warning bar) and you will then hear the audio. My testing with Internet Explorer indicates you will not receive that warning again within the same web page.

Note also that this online mockup may have some small delay while loading the audio sample. Should you hire me to create an audio-synced transcript, all files would be local, on your hard drive, and so that loading time will be negligible.

Concordance

Concordance indexing is another service offered by ENCtranscripts™. To view an example of one and what it can do for you, take a look at the Adobe PDF file in the viewer window above. At the end of the document you will see an index of all words spoken, a listing of all pages they are found, and each of those links is also a hyperlink to that instance of the word. Click it and you are there!

Concordance is available for any document format, and available with embedded hyperlinks for the Adobe and WordPerfect formats.

About Time Stamps

Time stamps in a transcript serve many purposes, but for legal transcription the most important thing is that you can easily find that part of the transcript in the recording, without having to search nearly as much. Time stamping is a free service for any transcript reported by ENCtranscripts™. Above is a link to a three-page sample of a time-stamped transcript, and also a link to a transcript which has both time stamps and audio links embedded in them.

About File Formats

The formats that are compatible on almost any computer, be it a PC or a Mac, are the ASCII, Adobe PDF, and the HTML formats. If you really want to be certain you can share this transcript, and view it on other computers, it's advised you order the transcipt in at least one of these formats.
